The Disaster Safe County Binder™ (DSB)
The DSB offers the highest level of protection for disaster recovery while recognizing the need for functionality and access ease. It also provides progressive protection from exposures such as fire, water, Relative Humidity (RH), atmospheric pollutants, ultraviolet (UV) light, impact, and drops. A security lock protects from theft. In addition, the DSB is equipped with a Polyester Foam Insert, which ensures physical support to the book block allowing library style storage.
The DSB meets or exceeds the NFPA Operating Practices ~6.12.2, “All records shall be stored in fully enclosed noncombustible containers” (NFPA 232, Standard for the Protection of Records, 2007 Edition J). Cover materials and boards are nonflammable, self-extinguishing, and manufactured to exceed NFPA Fire Code Class 1.
With the creation of the DSB, LBS addresses the creation of a Microclimate. The DSB’s seal separates papers from the external atmosphere. This function creates an independent, stable, and controlled Microclimate. Environmental control provides the single most effective tool in preventive conservation.
DSBs are constructed with protective MicroChamber barrier boards in the front and rear. These boards protect and preserve documents. Standard alkaline-buffered products only remove by-products of deterioration and pollutants. MicroChamber barrier boards exceed 100 times the acid-removal ability of buffered papers. Binders are also constructed with Silica Gel packets, which regulate RH within the Microclimate.
